Internet Explorer:
In case you haven't heard, Internet Explorer 6 - 9 all have several serious security holes, with exploits in the wild. Don't go browsing around the web with Internet Explorer. For the few who are using Internet Explorer 10 (Windows 8 only) you aren't vulnerable to these holes-you just don't have the safe version of Flash Player, yet. There is a Microsoft Fix it available, but hopefully the real fix will be available Friday, September 21, 2012 at Windows / Microsoft Update. Get it ASAP!

Privacy:
I have used Ghostery for some time with Firefox / Waterfox to block various trackers. Recently I have been testing Do Not Track Plus with Google Chrome. It works. A good article on trackers.

Safe browsers:
It appears that the latest version of Google Chrome is asking whether to allow Java to run on a page by page basis. Given the current state of Java, this is a very good thing. If you are running on Windows 7 64-bit, Google Chrome is only 32-bit.

Firefox 15 asks whether to install the Java plugin, but once allowed, it runs whenever the website asks for it. You can block this behavior and give yourself the ability to choose what to run on pages with the NoScript Add-on. NoScript can be installed by going to Tools, Add-ons, Get Add-ons. Search for NoScript, then install it. When you restart Firefox, it will run NoScript. Additional instructions & an alternate way to install NoScript can be found at
http://noscript.net. Firefox is 32-bit, but Waterfox is a 64-bit version that works well on Windows 7 (and Windows 8 :-)). Waterfox shares your Firefox profile, including your Add-ons, so NoScript will be there, too.
